Visiting the SMR Layout

Access

Because Shannondell at Valley Forge is a gated retirement community, any non-resident who wishes to visit the railroad must arrange for a specific date and time to do so. Please send your request via a resident or by e-mail to ShannondellMRC@gmail.com. Non-residents must be accompanied by a resident. Within this limitation, all are welcome.

Location

The Shannondell Model Railroad (SMR) is located on the Lower Level of Ashcroft Clubhouse, 10000 Shannondell Drive, Audubon, Pennsylvania.  When you exit an elevator, turn left. The Train Room will be just beyond the Outpatient Rehab center. Look for this display:

For more detail, go to Layout or select Layout from the menu at left. To see the Shannondell Model Railroad in operation, watch the following video (3:32 minutes).

Visiting the Layout

Residents may visit the Shannondell Model Railroad anytime the Train Room door is open, although the railroad may not be fully operational if maintenance or enhancement work is underway. Even so, you will learn something of the work that goes into creating and improving the Shannondell Model Railroad.

If you will give us some advance notice, however, we will do our best to have the room open and the trains operating as you request.

We also schedule Open Houses during selected holiday seasons. See Upcoming Events for specifics.

Whenever Shannondell residents have a special occasion with family or friends and you would like to visit the SMR, we will do our best to help you schedule a specific time. Please contact one of the following:
