Special Show for 2025 December
On 2025 December 4 (Ashcroft) and December 11 (Bradford) the Shannondell Model Railroad Club will present a special full-length movie titled: The Railway Children (1 hour 49 minutes).
The film depicts a well-to-do family suddenly plunged into poverty when the father, who works at the Foreign Office, is arrested for spying. Moving to Yorkshire, near the Oakworth railway station, the family (at least the children) soon become acquainted with people in and around the station and on the train. They help with several problems that arise (illness, lost family, …) ultimately leading to the exoneration of their father.
The film stars Jenny Agutter, Sally Thomsett, Gary Warren, Dinah Sheridan, Bernard Cribbins, and William Mervyn. The film was directed by Lionel Jeffries and produced by Bryan Forbes. The railway in question is The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (K&WVR).
Many may know Jenny Agutter for her role (since 2012) in the BBC's Call the Midwife (which can be seen on any of our local PBS stations). Her film work in recent years includes The Avengers (2012) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). She appeared in the sequel The Railway Children Return in 2022.
We believe you will enjoy this family-oriented film.
