Rolling Stock
Undergoing Revision
Shannondell Model Railroad Club (SMRC) has a large roster of locomotives, freight and passenger railroad cars (not to be confused with railcars, such as the Doodlebug) and utility railroad cars available for operation on the Shannondell Model Railroad. Details of SMRC’s rolling stock are presented below. Some history of particular vehicles modeled in our collection can be accessed here. For help with railroad terminology, please visit Education.

Motive Power

The following present illustrated rosters of steam, diesel and electric/other motive power (powered railroad cars, not railcars) owned by SMRC. All locomotives are under DCC (digital command and control).

Each illustration is accompanied by some detail concerning each item in the rosters. The table headings indicate engine number, owner railroad, engine class or model, wheel configuration (Whyte or UIC System notation) and sound indicates whether the engine emits sound (whistle, bell, etc.). All  For explanation of Class/Model and Wheel Configuration, go to the Classification section of this website.

Railroad Cars [under construction]

The following three tables are the rosters of railroad cars, moved by the above motive power, and owned by SMRC. The tables provide some detail concerning each item in the rosters. For information on the structure and capacity of various types of railroad cars, please go to https://web.archive.org/web/20111007195551/http://worldtraderef.com/ WTR_site/Rail_Cars/Guide_to_Rail_Cars.asp.

Trains are fundamentally built to haul things. The following tables divide our railroad cars into three categories: freight, passenger and utility cars.

Every railroad requires special rolling stock to build and maintain railroads and right of way. SMR has the following equipment.
